I am a complete beginner, what do I do?
Sail with us on a fun weekend to test the water, or jump strait in to a Royal Yachting Association beginners Competent Crew Course. If you want to learn about navigation in the classroom then the RYA Day Skipper theory course is the place to start.

Do I stay on board?

Yes this is part of the fun and syllabus of the RYA Course. Layout depends on the vessels, the Sigma 38 yachts have 3 double cabins and 4 berths in the middle of the boat.

Do I need waterproofs?

Capital Sailing provides waterproofs (other companies charge).

What do I need to bring?

  • A sleeping bag
  • Washkit and towel
  • Deck shoes or non marking shoes (no black soles please)
  • Warm clothes, fleeces if possible
  • Sunglasses and sun block
  • Money for shore side spending

Who will I be sailing with?
You will be sailing with people like yourself with a love of sailing, a mixture of ages and sexes. You are welcome to bring a friend on any of the courses.

How many people will be on board?
Tthe RYA courses will have a maximum of 5:1 ratio, the Sigma 38's are licenced for up to 10 people in total but we like to sail with a 8:1 Ratio.

Where can I leave my car?
There is plenty of space for a car or bike in the Maina, please park in the designates places and away from the water in case of a very high tide!

Where will I be sailing?
Most of the time you will be making short trips from your point of departure and sleeping on the boat which will be stopped during the night.
