VHF Radio Courses
A Prerequisite for the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster
Exam
This
one day course requires no prior knowledge and encompasses
the full VHF and DSC components of the RYA Radio Course
in one day. There are fundamental changes to the operation
of marine VHF radio that you should be aware of.
Coastguards will not maintain a dedicated listening
watch on CH16 after 31 January 2005 and vessels will
not have to have a listening watch on Channel 16 after
this date..
If you do not hold the RYA VHF certificate enroll
on the Capital Sailing one day or two evenings SRC
GMDSS course which will qualify you to operate all
VHF radios.
Please
bring with you:
A passport size photograph. A cheque made payable
to the RYA for the assessment for £23
Prior Course Knowledge
This course is aimed for you to safely and knowledgeably
use a VHF radio and be able to transmit a distress call
in the event of an emergency. The course will cumulate
in an assessment your full RYA VHF GMDSSs Radio operator's
certificate. Prior to the course we recommend that you
read these notes and learn the Phonetic alphabet below:
