Course to Steer

This is used when you want to know which direction to aim your vessel to get to a destination, very useful in the fog. Use the points below and you will not go wrong.

Find out where you are
Find out where you want to go
Draw a line between them (extend that line beyond the destination)
Roughly work out how long it will take to get between A and B to the nearest half hour
Work out the tide for that period and plot it from A
Work out the distance we will travel through the water for that period
Measure that distance on your dividers and set the dividers on the end of the tide you have plotted
Then arc the other end of the dividers across the line between A and B
